Case Description

Hi! My name is Sheila. I am writing for my husband, Roger. He has upper dentures that he has had for over 40 years. Believe it or not, they seem to function fine.

However, he has only three teeth remaining on the bottom. Two of them are about to fall out, and the other one is very sensitive. Needless to say, he is currently very restricted to what he can eat.

He was hoping to be able to get implants, but 16 months ago he was diagnosed with colon cancer. We have been on a roller coaster ride with treatment. However, right now he is doing well and we would like to get some idea about how much it would cost to get a set of dentures for his bottom.

Dear Sheila, sorry to here about Rogers diagnosis. Thats incredible that he has been working with the same denture for 40 years and that he can function with only three teeth left on the bottom. That tells me that Roger is as tough as nails. We could do a lot of fancy things for Roger but what he probably needs is something to help him maintian his diet by being able to chew his food. The good news is that he is used to having a denture. He wont have to learn something new. The bad news is that lower dentures are the worst. Upper dentures have a suction cup like action to hold them in place. Lower denture just float around everywhere. Itt would be great if he could have a couple of implants to hold it in place. Also, sometimes its hard to make a new lower denture to work with an old worn out upper denture. Maybe Roger will be lucky and the upper denture wasnt used much for 40 years sinse ther are no teeth on the bottom. I really need to see Roger to give you a better answer. It wont be an easy road but .....I think Roger will be just fine because of the person that he is.
